I went to an estate sale and found a dogtag. What is the best way to find out if the Veteran is alive or not?  The Veteran was in the USMCR. The only thing I don't know about is "T7-42"?  Any help would be greatful. This means more than anything.

I did not write the original letter, but went to the sites and found them fascinating. I am the daughter of a USAF retired major and Vietnam vet, and never really paid attention to the dog tags, but now that I teach history, I am looking into these things. My father in law served in WWII and passed away in 1967. I found his tags (E type) and the websites helped me read them. Thanks for the information! By the way, T7-42 means that the vet received a Tetanus shot in 1942. :)
