Boring weather week

This is one of the weeks that exemplify the reason for doing a weekly blog and not a daily one. This was a normal, boring Tennessee weather week. Half the week was sunny and nice, half was rainy. The rain that was here was sporadic, the radar pictures looked like something out of children’s dot-to-dot book, what is referred to locally as “popcorn showers”.

This was the week of our County Fair. My wife dodged three heavy rain showers. My sister-in-law referred to them as “monsoons”. I was at work, looking out at a sunny sky with scattered white clouds. I didn’t see rain the entire day.

The day before was another story. I drove from work to home, approximately 45 miles, in the rain. This week’s picture was taken out of the front window after I had parked the van at work.

I woke this morning to 59-degree temperatures. I dressed in jeans and flannel shirt, and set out on my morning to-do list. The high for the day was 85. So, I went from long pants, long-sleeve shirt and heavy socks under work boots to jeans, loose fitting short sleeve and sandals before setting off on my afternoon to-do list. The weather has confused some of the local fauna, too. The Mimosa trees are flowering again, pink puffs shocking against the green of surrounding foliage.

Summer is not over for another three weeks, but you could smell autumn in the air, today. As the temperatures today demonstrated, we cannot count Summer out of the game, yet. It has a nasty habit of coming back strong with and Indian Summer. I would suggest airing out your sweaters and such, but do not put your summer wear in to storage just yet.
